Afghanistan opener Najeeb Tarakai has passed away. Najeeb, a 29-year-old Afghan batsman, was seriously injured in a road accident on Friday on (October 2). He went into a coma after being injured in the accident. His head was severely hurt.
On Friday, Najeeb was crossing the road from the grocery store in East Nangarhar, when the car passing by hit him, after which he was immediately taken to the hospital. Opener Najib has played one ODI and 12 T20 International matches for Afghanistan.
His performance in first-class cricket was excellent. He has scored 2030 runs in 24 matches, including six centuries and 10 half-centuries. His average was above 47.
Expressing grief over the incident, the Afghanistan Cricket Board wrote on social media, “ACB and Afghanistan Cricket Loving Nation mourns the heartbreaking & grievous loss of its aggressive opening batsman & a very fine human being Najeeb Tarakai (29) who lost his life to tragic traffic accident leaving us all shocked! May Allah Shower His Mercy on him.”

Najeeb Tarakai has played 12 T20 Internationals for Afghanistan national cricket team and has scored 258 runs at a strike rate of 122. Najeeb Tarakai played his first international game for Afghanistan national team in the 2014 T20 World Cup held in Bangladesh.
