Due to coronavirus pandemic, all sporting events have come to halt. Many major sports tournament have been postponed or cancelled. In cricket also IPL 2020 have been postponed indefinitely and speculation is growing that 2020 T20 World Cup scheduled at end of this year will also be pushed back to 2021.
Currently, six months are left in the tournament but ICC is exploring all the options available and is evaluating the situation.
An ICC spokesperson was quoted as saying by Sky Sport, “We are continuing with our planning for ICC events as they are, but given the rapidly evolving situation as a prudent and responsible measure, we are also undertaking a comprehensive contingency planning exercise.”
“This includes exploring all options available to us based on a range of scenarios connected to the pandemic,” he said.
He further said that ICC is monitoring the situation and collective decision will be taken by ICC, authorities and the Australian Government in the best of the sport.
“We will continue to take advice from experts and authorities, including the Australian government and will take decisions at the appropriate time. We will utilise all the data and information available to us to ensure we can take well-informed, responsible decisions that are in the best interests of our sport,” he added.
The 2020 T20 World Cup is scheduled from October 18 to November 15 in Australia.
