The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to host mega auction ahead of the 14th season of Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) and also planning to add the ninth team.

With the IPL 2020 concluded on November 10, BCCI had started preparation for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2021). BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had earlier said that the IPL 2021 will take place in India during April-May window.

According to The Hindu, BCCI had informally indicated their intention to franchises to hold full auction ahead of IPL 2021. The reason behind to hold the mega auction is to add the ninth team to maintain financial balance in aftermath of the pandemic.

The new franchise is likely to be based in Ahmedabad, Motera Stadium to be home ground, which is recently refurbished to the capacity of 1,10,000 by Gujarat Cricket Stadium.
