The BCCI president and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly will provide rice worth Rs 50 lakh to the underprivileged during the 21-days nationwide lockdown due to Coronavirus pandemic.

Lal Baba Rice and Sourav Ganguly have come along to together to provide it to the needy persons who have been put in government schools for safety and security, the Cricket Association of Bengal said in a statement.

“It is heartening to note that Sourav Ganguly along with Lal Baba Rice has come forward to provide free rice worth Rs 50 lacs to the needy people who have been put in government schools for safety and security,” CAB statement read.

“Hope this initiative of Ganguly would encourage other citizens of the state to take up similar initiatives to serve the people of our state,” the statement from the company added.

Earlier today Sourav Ganguly has said he was ready to offer the Eden Gardens indoor facility and the players dormitory to the West Bengal government to be used as temporary quarantine facilities and medical centre against the novel coronavirus.

”If the government asks us, we will certainly hand over the facility. Anything that is need of the hour, we will do it. There is absolutely no problem,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.

Earlier today Cricket Administration of Bengal has come forward and decided to donate a sum of Rs 25 lakh to the state administration in Corona Aid.

“We are perhaps going through the darkest phase of human civilization when worldwide lives have been lost to Novel Corona Virus. Cricket stands for Unity. It also stands for humanity. Therefore, on behalf of CAB, we have decided to donate Rs 25 lakhs for now to the State Emergency Relief Fund to be used in combating this disease. As a responsible institution, it is our duty to stand by the administration and help them eradicate this disease,” said CAB President Avishek Dalmiya.
