Due to the coronavirus outbreak, all the cricketing events have come to a halt around the globe. With this majority of cricket board are finding it difficult to handle their financial loss.
While low-level cricket associations are suffering more loss and finding difficult to continue their works. Amid this Sri Lanka Cricket have decided to financially support the Umpires, Cricket Clubs and District Cricket Association around the country.
In the media release Sri Lanka Cricket said, “With the ‘Game of Cricket’ coming to a total halt because of the COVID–19 pandemic, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) decided to provide relief to the affected segments of Sri Lanka’s Cricketing community.”
Clubs with cricket grounds will be granted a sum of LKR 100,000 for each march and April month. While District Cricket Association will get LKR 150,000 for their players and staffs. Umpire Association will get a monetary advance of LKR 780,000 as a relief measure.
“Accordingly, the SLC Executive Committee decided to grant its member clubs (ones which maintain cricket grounds) a sum of LKR 100,000, each, for March and April 2020 to help upkeep the standards of the cricketing venues and infrastructure facilities. Whilst, District Cricket Associations will also be given a grant of LKR 150,000 to help uplift the livelihood of the players of the district squads and its managerial staff, who are facing financial difficulties due to the current situation,” SLC said in a statement.
“In the meantime, the SLC also provided a monetary advance of LKR 780,000 to the Umpires Association of Sri Lanka, as a relief measure,” stamens added.
This relief package will help 11 cricket clubs and 26 District Cricket Associations around the country.
Under this measure, 11 member Clubs (ones which maintain cricket grounds) and 26 District Cricket Associations will receive financial grants.
