East Bengal FC announced that they have decided to part ways with 11 players ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Super League (ISL 2023-24), the club announced on Saturday, June 3.
The Kolkata-based club has bid farewell to 11 individuals, including both domestic and foreign players. With new head coach Carles Cuadrat at the helm, East Bengal FC aims to reshape their team and make a strong impact in the ISL 2023-24.

The list of departing players comprises Jerry Lalrinzuala, Alex Lima, Charalambos Kyriacou, Semboi Haokip, Sumeet Passi, Jake Jervis, Jordan O’Doherty, Suvam Sen, Naveen Kumar, Amarjit Singh Kiyam and Himanshu Jangra.

The 24-year-old fullback, Jerry Lalrinzuala joined East Bengal FC from Chennaiyin FC last summer. After impressing in the Durand Cup, Jerry made 16 starts for East Bengal and was one of their few consistent performers.
Alex Lima joined East Bengal FC from Jamshedpur. The 33-year-old Brazilian versatile midfielder played 41 of Jamshedpur’s 42 games in the last two ISL seasons providing four assists and winning the 2021-22 League Winners Shield.
Charalambos Kyriacou is a versatile foreign player who made 24 appearances and contributed across multiple positions for East Bengal FC last season. The 32-year-old Cypriot has played 11 times for the Cyprus national football team and has won all domestic honours in Cyprus.
Semboi Haokip and Sumeet Passi, both experienced forwards, had also played important roles in the team’s attacking force.
Semboi Haokip joined East Bengal FC ahead of ISL 2020-21 from Bengaluru FC where he spent four seasons. Haokip was with East Bengal in 2017 for a short loan spell from Kerala Blasters FC.
While Haokip scored one goal, Passi turned out to be a versatile player who could help in several positions often making him a threat.
Jake Jervis, a British striker, had arrived at the club in January but failed to impress the audience much. Jordan O’Doherty, the Australian midfielder, was another important player who joined the club in the 2022-23 season. His vision and passing ability had often set up scoring opportunities for his teammates.
Amarjit Singh Kiyam and Himanshu Jangra, who are young Indian players, had also contributed to the team’s success, and their departure will be felt. Himanshu was on loan at East Bengal and will now return to his parent club Delhi FC.
While Naveen Kumar and Suvam Sen played their role as backup goalkeepers for the club.
