The player auction of the Lanka Premier League (LPL 2020) will be held on October 1, 2020, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced on Friday (September 11, 2020).
150 foreign players are shortlisted by SLC including Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy, Darren Bravo, Shahid Afridi, Shakib-Al-Hasan, Ravi Bopara, Colin Munro, Munaf Patel and Vernon Philander are in line to play in the inaugural edition of the LPL.
Each franchise can buy up to six international players. A total of 30 international cricketers and 65 local cricketers are expected to make up the five teams.
The first season of Lanka Premier League is scheduled to take place from November 14, 2020, to December 6, 2020, in Sri Lanka. The tournament was to be held in August but had to postpone due to the circumstances surrounded by COVID-19 pandemic.
The 23 match League will be played on the 3 international venues of Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium and Suriyawewa Mahinda Rajapakse International Cricket Stadium. While the opening match will be played at Suriyawewa Mahinda Rajapakse International Cricket Stadium, Hambantota.
