Suresh Raina has issued his first statement after pulling out of IPL 2020 on August 29. Former India cricketer Suresh Raina has spoken out on the death of his uncle Ashok Kumar, following an attack by robbers in Punjab’s Pathankot district on the night intervening August 19 and 20.

Revealing details of the crime that claimed the lives of his uncle and cousin, and left his aunt and cousin severely injured, Raina tweeted, “What happened to my family is Punjab was beyond horrible. My uncle was slaughtered to death, my bua & both my cousins had sever injuries. Unfortunately my cousin also passed away last night after battling for life for days. My bua is still very very critical & is on life support.”

He further requested the Punjab Chief Minister and Punjab police to look into the incident.

“Till date we don’t know what exactly had happened that night & who did this. I request @PunjabPoliceInd to look into this matter. We at least deserve to know who did this heinous act to them. Those criminals should not be spared to commit more crimes. @capt_amarinder @CMOPb,” he added.

Suresh Raina flew back to India from UAE on August 29 and pulled out from entire season, Chennai Super Kings CEO, KS Viswanathan informed in a tweet from CSK official twitter handle.

“Suresh Raina has returned to India for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of the IPL season. Chennai Super Kings offers complete support to Suresh and his family during this time,” KS Viswanathan said in the statement.

Later it was reported that the reason behind Suresh Raina pulling out of IPL 2020 is the death of his uncles in an attack on his family in Pathankot.

A 58-year-old uncle of cricketer Suresh Raina died while four members of his family sustained injuries allegedly in an attack by robbers in Punjab’s Pathankot district.
